Hrimfare expeditions
2025
Norway and the Arctic Sea
We are now planning for the launch and a first expedition as the Mother Ship of the research program Sailing4Science. The goal is to sail up along the coast of Norway to the Arctic Sea, starting in 2025. We are offering research expedition opportunities along the Swedish West coast via Denmark, then aiming for the Norwegian coast and visiting fjords from Oslo up to Trondheim first of all. Then, as a second part of the expedition, we hope to continue further north up to Tromsö and the Arctic waters. Read more about the project here

2017-2024
Outsourced expeditions
Hrimfare being renovated and getting dressed...
We decided to halt the expeditions and give Hrimfare some serious love and attention. We lifted her up on land for a deep "make-over" in 2017. We thought that 2 years would be plenty of time. But a steel yacht from 1991 that has sail raced four times around the world and served as a school ship in the UK Marines deserved (needed) more time. Now, 7 years later, she is getting ready for launch in the coming spring.
Expeditions carried out in the meantime...
Being sailors and scientists we were not just going to sit down and wait while Hrimfare is being renovated. So we have been "out there" in the meantime. Performing scientific research assignments in various waters for a wide range of research projects on the Swedish west coast, in Norway, and in Greece. Even along the coast in West Africa with the project Sailing4Science.
2016
Ocean Awareness
Young curious students onboard
Inviting groups of students to a few days sailing, and living onboard a yacht is always rewarding. They love it. We focus on good seamanship, awareness of the beauty of the archipelago and sea, and demonstration of environmental concern through beach litter cleanup and learning research mini projects. The magic happens every time – we know our guests – young or old – will come back home with new perspectives on humanity's connection to the ocean and a better understanding of how important it is to treat it with respect and care. The students came form the Gullmarsgymnasiet in Lysekil, Sweden (upper secondary school).
The Bonus Sheba Expedition
A scientific expedition from Gothenburg to Gotland and back. We sailed southwards via Øresund between Denmark and Sweden and into the Baltic Sea to visit the island's "capital" Visby, and to participate in the "Almedalsveckan" – a democratic weekly meeting place for dialogue, exchange, and unexpected meetings between politicians, societal and business stakeholders and the general public.
Plastic Free Sea around Denmark
On our way back from Gotland we took a turn through the Kiel Canal and then up north along the Danish west coast and stopped in marinas and harbors for the campaign "Don't Tell The Children. Promoting trash-free ocean behaviors and ocean literacy.
2015
Plastic pollution
Plastic Free Sea along Norway's coast
We made an expedition to Norway this summer and reached Stavanger. We also completed an expedition as part of the "West Sea Week" and for the campaign "Don't Tell the Children".
2014
A Trash-Free Baltic Sea
Raising awareness about plastic trash
Believe it or not, but plastic trash and microplastics in the seas were not a big topic for the general public back in 2014. We sailed southwards via Øresund between Denmark and Sweden and into the Baltic Sea to visit Gotland to raise the awareness of the issue at the mega event "Almedalsveckan" – a democratic week long meeting place for dialogue, exchange, and unexpected connections between societal, business, high-end political stakeholders and the general public.
2013
Blue Food...what's cooking?
Showcasing new sustainable sea food
The expedition during season 2013 was colored by "Blue Food" as a part of the West Sea Week's program, and we sailed and showcased what's cooking with a multitude of actors from fishermen, aquaculture scientists, chefs and fishery researchers to talk about and taste new sustainable food alternatives from the sea.
